GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS ATTEMPT

My name is Mike Heard and I work as a full time Radio Engineer for the RadioWorks NZ Ltd and a part time announcer for The Rock Network. Every year Guinness World Records receive 65,000 applications from people wanting to break various world records. The difference between me and many of my fellow applicants is that I have been accepted. On August the 15th 2008 I am going to attempt to break the world record for the “Most Bungy Jumps in 24 Hours”. The record was set by Bill Boshoff (South Africa) at Bloukrans River Bridge, South Africa, on 10 May 2002 and stands at 101.

WHERE? – The AJ Hackett Bungy - Auckland pod under the Auckland Harbour Bridge
WHEN? – August the 15th 2008

I am doing this because I have a passion for Bungy Jumping. Bungy Jumping is a sport that started off with a bad reputation due to a number of dodgy, pirate organisations using incorrect equipment and practices. Over 18 years ago the code of practise for Bungy Jumping AS/NZS 5848 was developed and put in place by AJ Hackett Bungy and New Zealand Standards Association to stop this happening and to stop the people who enjoyed the sport or wanted to give it a crack getting injured. Unfortunately these rumours are still in the urban rumour mill and scare people from even giving it a shot. I love the sport and think everyone should give it a go. AJ Hackett Bungy developed the Code of practise for Bungy Jumping and have a 100% safety record and plan to keep up that high standard. I am going to prove that this sport is not only a huge rush but it is also safe. AJ Hackett Bungy - Auckland has been working very closely with me to make sure my health is up to scratch.
Let’s face it, I’m not doing just one jump like most people, I am going out there to smash this record and there may be some health risks that we are unaware of. I am young and fit and AJ Hackett Bungy - Auckland wouldn’t let me do this if they thought it would tarnish there 100% safety record. I would like to see more people giving it a go. Bungy Jumping shouldn’t be one of those sports that you try once just to “cross off your list of things to do before you die”, people should try it once and then try it again and again and again. It can often be a little disorientating the first time around, but trust me..... it gets a WHOLE lot better the more you do it!!

I am very proud to say that Cure Kids are the official charity for the attempt. I would like to thank them for the help and support they lend to young children and families all over New Zealand. I believe that every parent wishes for a healthy and fit child, unfortunately this is not always the case. Please click on the Cure Kids logo below and make a small donation to help Cure Kids continue their funding of medical research for children.

Cure Kids are an amazing charity and I feel very lucky to be involved with them. They are a very humble group of people who provide funds and smiles for children with various illnesses and diseases all over New Zealand. I believe that everybody with a young family or planning a family wants nothing but a healthy and fit child. Unfortunately this is not always what we are given - Cure Kids provide a lot of support to these children and families, it is nice to know that if you/I are in the same situation one day, someone is doing something to make things easier or even better find a cure. You can check out Cure Kids great work on www.curekids.org.nz

Please donate what you can and leave a little message of support for me as I try to bring this record to New Zealand where it belongs. 20 cents a jump would be just $20.20!!! All for the kids!!!
